The classic titles may be dated by modern standards, but they will surely provide fans with a healthy dose of old-school nostalgia. The Pokémon Stadium games are staples of the Nintendo 64 library, and Nintendo Switch Online will finally add them to its ever-growing roster. Online tournament play would be an interesting angle to focus on, or the series could allow players to customize their own stadium to create a more personal Pokémon experience.
This means that a modern Pokémon Stadium game would need to fill a new niche, or delve into a unique new genre, to be worth playing. The Nintendo 64 duology was notable for its three-dimensional Pokémon brawls, but today's modern entries in the monster collection franchise are mostly all played from a 3D perspective. While Nintendo Switch Online will soon introduce Pokémon Stadium to a new audience, a new Pokémon Stadium game has not been discussed by Nintendo publicly. Other beloved Nintendo 64 titles, like Mario Party 3 and Excitebike 64, will also be coming to the online service next year. However, an exact release date for Pokémon Stadium 1 and 2 has not been specified. 2022 will see the addition of the first two Mario Party games and the airborne racing game Pilotwings 64, and 2023 will bring Pokémon Stadium and Pokémon Stadium 2 to the platform. Back in May the service was bolstered with the addition of Kirby 64 to Nintendo Switch Online, and soon the Pokémon Stadium games will be added to the virtual library too. In order to preserve the legacy of this iconic console, the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service has recently begun adding an ever-expanding buffet of N64 games for its subscribers to enjoy. 3D Pokémon games have become commonplace in recent years, but Pokémon Stadium and its 2001 sequel still remain memorable entries in the Nintendo 64 lineup. When it first released back in 1999 Pokémon Stadium was considered a novelty, as it allowed players to engage in intense Pokémon battles within a three-dimensional environment.
